Should Crimson Trace have leaked their new lever gun laser?

I have mentioned a couple of times that Robert over at TTAG got a pretty good scoop a while back about a super-secret project over at Crimson Trace in which they are working out a prototype laser for lever guns. He got the story so early in fact that he found out about it when it was still a conceptual drawing on Ian Harrison's desk.

Kudos to Robert for getting the scoop, and smart move by Crimson Trace for producing this product - they are gonna sell a ton of them - but my question is was it the right business move to leak this out to the press?

IMHO, I dont think it was wise for Crimson Trace to tip their hand. Its not too late to think that we might see other laser companies show up at SHOT with a very similar working product/design. I think they would have been better off keeping this wrapped up in Skunk Works and then showing up at SHOT and leaving everyone pissed off and wondering "Why the hell didnt we think of that".

Its gonna be interesting to see how this all plays out.
