Murder victim hated guns

Oh the irony.... but apparently he didnt hate strip clubs... hehe. Why is this even being brought up in court? What exactly does this bring to the case?

Innocent bystander John O’Keefe who was murdered by gunfire outside the Brass Rail strip club was described in court as a gun-hating pacifist who forbid his son from playing with toy guns.
“John always hated guns. He wanted his son to understand that guns are deadly weapons whose only purpose is to kill,” said Jennifer O’Keefe while reading her victim impact statement at the sentencing hearing Monday for the two men convicted in her older brother’s fatal shooting.
“The terrible irony is not lost here, I am outraged by the continuing gun violence in this city. More than two years has passed and nothing has changed,” said Jennifer.
