Reality Television...
You might have noticed that there has been some controversy that has popped up recently with regard to 'Top Shot'... Yeah, its important to always remember that its always gonna be more television than it is reality... even on the gun shows. From the Haus of Guns interview of Jake Zweig:
Okay well I guess I can only say so much about how things developed, but when you’re in Hollywood I don’t care what you’re doing it’s still gonna be a TV show. I guess I went to it with a different perception of what I thought I would be doing at the start of the show.

I find it very interesting...
I cover some 'Top Shot' stuff here and there on the blog... I will also be interviewing the winner of season 3 coming up soon... (submit your questions here). But for the most part, it doesnt do much of anything to drive traffic here at the blog. So, I found it very interesting that the post I did on Thursday covering the news of Ashley Spurlin's claims that the outcomes on 'Top Shot' are all being controlled by the production staff has been generating traffic like gang busters.
Now, there is no question that 'Top Shot' has been a resounding success over the past three seasons... And I cant really speak for the traffic it is creating for other bloggers and website owners, but I thought it was very telling that it never really did anything for my site. I really dont think it has captured the hearts and minds of the online gun community who continually bemoan the "drama llama" aspect of the show as being a real deal breaker for them. I get that... and because of that, I usually have only watched the first episode or two of each season as well as the finales. I think its an interesting idea for a show, but the drama gets to me after a while. I guess that (for me) its just one of those shows that I will enjoy watching if there is nothing better on, but its certainly not something I will plan my day around.

Vltor TS3 from last night's Top Shot
Haus of Guns has a look and has the full break down of all the specs... The thing is pricey ($2495), but it looks like every tactical fan-boys dream.

Salient Arms Glock featured on last nights Top Shot
Facebook reader Ben Lewis pointed me over to Salient Arms... I could not for the life of me figure out who made the custom Glock they featured last night, but its them. It was a sweet looking gun for sure, and if you head over to their site you can see some more of the great eye candy. They also do work on other guns, so go have a look even if you are not a Glock fanboy. Then head on over to Aaron's place... he has a video recap of the show. Also, Caleb has a the exit interview on Gun Nuts Media
BTW - I absolutely love the look of their slides!

Top Shot Season 3 Episode 1
Yeah, I liked it. No drama... no BS... just good old fashioned shooting. The competitions were pretty clever. I mean, how can you go wrong with starting the show off by drag racing S&W 500s?!? Loved it! The rifle competition was also unique. It was a great way to get the shooters stress level and heart rate up, and it made for some good TV too. I also thought the elimination contest was very cool.... it probably came down to more luck then skill, what with that stage coach bouncing around like it was, but thats how it goes sometimes. I would really have hated to be facing elimination in a match with such a huge uncontrollable variable like that.
All in all, I thought it was pretty good. I was entertained for the full hour, and it left me very much looking forward to the coming episodes. I am wondering how it will all play out with some of the very unique guns they have selected for the coming episodes... it also looks like they will have another upside down shooting event in one of the shows. I guess we will have to wait and see.
