Springfield XD-S Hitting the Stores in March

Thats what is being reported by LVRJ... I knew that they were already in the supply chain, so it was really only a matter of how long it would take for distributors to get all the orders sorted out and shipped.

You can go ahead and reserve yourself one by pre-ordering here.

More details emurge about the new XDs .45 ACP

Caleb has a run down of the specs and the scoop on when you can get your hands on one:

  • Caliber: .45 ACP
  • Barrel length: 3.3 inches
  • Sights: Fiber optic front, white dot rear
  • Overall length: 6.3 inches
  • Height: 4.4 inches
  • Weight 29 ounces
  • comes with 2 mags
I spoke with the guys at Springfield Armory about the gun, and it’s shipping right now so it will be on dealer’s shelves soon.  The big question I had was “when will the 9mm version be available?”  The answer was “summer of this year.”

I immediately fell in love with this gun when news first broke... and then I immediately fell out of love with it when I heard that it was 29 oz. Not really a "micro", and as I see it, it does not really pick up any traction over any other .45 carry gun. Yes, it is single stack, but in my mind its not really worth the trade off to only 5+1 rounds when the gun still weighs 29 ounces. It aint but a hair thinner than the Glock 36 (which is also a single stack and holds 6+1) and that thing only weighs 20 ounces.

The Haus got his hands on the XD Slim .45

Over at Haus of Guns, Eric has a video up from range day and some more great info on (IMO) the biggest thing to come out of SHOT this year. And here is the big kicker:

I will say firing it was a pleasure. Though a lightweight .45 ACP is a bit of a handful regardless of who makes it. Accuracy was good, in fact I was as accurate as I wanted to be depending on my patience. Seeing a .45 in this compact of a package does nothing but make me want one for CCW.
Watching the video, recoil looks very, very controllable.

More on the Springfield XDs 45 Compact

From the way things are looking thus far, this may be the big reveal at SHOT Show 2012 and may go on to be handgun of the year. Its a single stack XD which is atleast going to be available in .45 ACP. Ateast someone out there is listening to the consumer.... Glock? Hello?

Off the shelf competition guns

Caleb has put together a nice three part series on competition guns that you can get straight from the factory. They are all great reads individually, and as a whole they present a wealth of knowledge. Go read his run down on each... Springfield XDm 5.25..... Glock 34.... S&W M&P Pro.

Springfield Armory Range Officer

Handguns Magazine has a look. They seem to be very impressed with it... they found it to be completely reliable, accurate, and very well made. I will also point out that Shelley Rae, of Gun Nuts Media fame, also speaks very highly of this pistol. Personally, if I were in the market for a new 1911 this would be where I would start.

Boring

That new XDm that they were teasing us about... not really anything interesting to me. I was curious if they would jump into the micro 9 market or not. Guess not. RTB has the full story

Springfield XDM Compact

Don't know how I missed blogging about this yet... It comes with one 13 rd mag and one 19 rd mag and all the rest of the XD "gear". Overall length is 7 inches. Height is 4.6 inches with compact mag.... However, it weighs in at a hefty 27 ounces with an empty mag.
