Review: Breech Vault by GunVault

The other day the good folks at GunVault sent a really cool little devise my way... The Breech Vault. Basicly this is a locking mechanism that ingeniously slides sideways into the breech of your shotgun and keeps it all safe and sound under lock and key.

Its a tough little lock. Made of glass-reinforced nylon and developed by one of the most prominent names in the gun safe industry, this product is a major step up from those flimsy freebie locks that come with your gun from the factory. Its also a California DOJ approved locking mechanism.

What you get with each one of these kits is the locking mechanism, keys, a couple of forearm inserts, and  five breach inserts to customize the lock to your specific firearm (this model fits Winchester, Remington, and Mossberg pump guns). Basically, you use the hand-dandy chart in the instruction manual to find out which inserts you are going to need for your gun and chamber size and then just attach them accordingly. Its quick and easy, and there is a full video up on their website if you want to see it for yourself.

I think that GunVault did a great job with this product. Its very well made, its inexpensive ($20), it easily identifies your gun as safe, and its small enough to fit in your pocket. This devise is a great way to secure your firearm in the home without the expense of a full size gun safe. It also allows you to store your shotgun "cruiser ready" while at the same time keeping unwanted hands (like those of small children or teenagers) from doing themselves or anyone else harm with the weapon. Because of its convenient size, its also a great way to quickly make your shotgun inoperable when outside of the home as well. If you are at the range, a hunting lodge, a shooting match, or in some other situation where you may need to set your shotgun down for a while or momentarily take your eyes off it... this is a very quick and effective way of making it 100% unable to be fired without the need to unload every single shell.

So if you are looking for an incredibly inexpensive way to safely store your shotgun, go check this product out. It really is a well thought out, well executed product that does exactly what it advertises... Oh, and they also have something very similar for your AR Rifle too!
