A while back I did a bleg on the blog because I was in search of an ankle holster to fill a hole in my concealed carry options. Even with a couple of different pocket pistols as well as various holster combinations I was still finding myself in need of a more discreet carry option. For me, ankle carry was proving to be the only option in certain social situations. Being new to ankle carry, you guys really helped out by giving me some great things to look for in an ankle holster.
Recently, the good people over at CrossBreed Holsters sent one of their ankle holsters my way for trial and evaluation.
Their ankle rig is actually something that they have only recently started offering, and is actually produced for them by Front Line. Front Line is an Israeli company that also manufactures gear for the IDF and the Israeli Police Forces. With that kind pedigree it pretty much goes without saying that this is indeed a high quality holster. Constructed of an extremely durable padded nylon material and secured with generous portions of Velcro, this holster is truly top notch. The quality of the materials and the construction of this holster leaves no doubt in my mind that it will hold up to years of heavy use in all climates imaginable. It includes a removable calf strap that helps keep the holster from sliding down your leg, and also features a padded ankle section for greater comfort. A sturdy thumb break keeps your hideout gun in place and is quick and easy to access when the time comes.
I have been using this holster for a couple of weeks now with a Kel-Tec P32, and have been very pleased with it. There really is something about Crossbreed in that they focus as much attention on the comfort of their holsters as they do the quality. This ankle holster that they are now offering is no different. The holster is extremely comfortable and is something that I can walk around in all day without feeling like I am dragging my left leg around everywhere I go.
With a light weight pocket gun I am able to wear this ankle rig around all day and not feel any discomfort or limitations in any of my movements. I actually chose to use the holster with the included calf strap despite the fact that the 9.5 ounces of the Kel-Tec is unquestionably a featherweight. With the calf strap in place (an option that many other holster makers charge extra for) the holster doesn't budge at all during normal use. The other thing that I really like about this holster is its slim profile. Its darn near impossible to detect that I am carrying a firearm on my ankle with this rig. The slim profile also goes a very long way towards keeping the pant leg down and in a normal positioning throughout the process of sitting and standing.
For me personally weight is the number one issue when it comes to ankle carry. I personally cant bring myself to ankle carry a gun any larger than a micro pocket pistol because it makes me feel like I have an anchor tied around my leg. Although this setup that I tried out was with a tiny little pocket rocket, I have no doubts that this holster design would do a great job comfortably carrying a larger gun all day long. The included removable calf strap goes a long way towards making this an extremely good choice for ankle carrying larger handguns.
So whats the bottom line? This is a great holster. Well made, comfortable, and very tough. Crossbreed has once again offered their customers a holster that leaves the competition in the dust. If you are in need of an ankle rig, then go give this one a look. It covers all the needs and wants for secure and comfortableankle carry, and its definitely a high quality holster that will provide years of service.

Looks like Crossbread has dropped their ankle rig from their line.
